Biography

 
Mr. Ray Maxwell has served on the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Board of Directors since 2016 and currently serves as Board Chair. Mr. Maxwell and his wife Carol have three children that have attended Thomas Jefferson since kindergarten.
 
Mr. Maxwell is a registered engineer in North Carolina and holds both undergraduate and graduate Civil Engineering degrees from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has been employed as a civil engineer for over 25 years. After graduating college, he worked for a private engineering firm and later left to serve in local government where he is now employed as a Public Works Director. He has overseen the design and construction of numerous new buildings, parks, greenways, water and sewer extensions, additions and renovations to existing buildings, site selection and suitability studies, and environmental permitting. His department is also responsible for the daily maintenance of over 1.6 million square feet of buildings.
 
In addition to the TJ board, Mr. Maxwell has had the privilege of serving on numerous boards and committees for community and state organizations and churches. Some of those roles included service on personnel, trustee, youth, and legacy committees at church, co-chairing a committee at a state beekeeping association, vice-chair of a local beekeeping association, water and sewer advisory board, quality of natural resources commission, and numerous work-related committees. In his spare time, Mr. Maxwell enjoys spending time with family, woodworking, and raising honey bees.
