TJCA Senior Julissa Bell named Morehead-Cain Scholar

AVONDALE — Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is proud to announce that senior Julissa Bell has been named a recipient of the esteemed Morehead-Cain Scholarship, one of the nation's most prestigious and competitive undergraduate scholarships.

Julissa is among an elite group of students selected for the Morehead-Cain Class of 2029. This distinguished scholarship provides a fully-funded undergraduate experience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It covers tuition, room and board, books, supplies, and includes four summers of enrichment in global travel, leadership, and service.

Julissa’s journey to receiving this honor has been one of deep personal joy.

“It felt amazing, almost unreal,” she shared. “I was driving to Chick-fil-A for work, anticipating the results to be released at a certain time. But it came out early, and when I read ‘Congratulations,’ my heart dropped to my toes. I just started to cry. I felt so accomplished and blessed.”

As part of the Morehead-Cain experience, Julissa will embark on an Outdoor Leadership expedition this summer, backpacking for 25 days in Lander, Wyoming.

“I fly out on July 8,” she said. “I have a mixture of emotions. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I think this experience will help me grow as a person. I plan to journal and read my Bible while I’m there, since I won’t have my phone, which scared me at first. But I’m truly excited to step outside the box.”

In college, Julissa plans to study Public Policy and International Affairs, with aspirations of a career in government.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved different cultures. It started when I watched every Disney princess movie known to man,” she said. “I believe God has given me a powerful voice and presence that’s meant to help others. I hope to pursue a career in government—maybe even as President of the United States, or Secretary of State. I want to travel the world, speak on behalf of the U.S., and build connections with other countries.”

Julissa’s achievement is a testament to her dedication, character, and the strong academic foundation provided at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. We celebrate this milestone with her and look forward to the incredible impact she will make in the years to come.
