Grammar School

As a charter school, we have greater freedom to choose and develop a curriculum that accomplishes our unique goals while meeting state standards. In doing so, we cover both the NC Standard Course of Study and the Core Knowledge Sequence.

The foundation of our Core Knowledge curriculum is based on ideas presented by E.D. Hirsch, Jr. This curriculum is designed to build students’ background knowledge across domains in literature, world, and American history, geography, and science. The Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) program prepares students for the Logic and Rhetoric stages of the trivium by developing skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 

Our math curriculum, Singapore Math, uses proven strategies that help our students understand concepts by teaching them to think mathematically rather than solely through memorization.
