AVONDALE — The Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) varsity men’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the 1A North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs with a 6-0 win over South Stokes on Wednesday afternoon.
Charlie Schweppe (6-1, 6-0), Aidan O’Reilly (6-0, 6-0), Lukas Hobbs (6-3, 6-0), James Hamrick (6-1, 6-2), Hunter Plaster (6-0, 7-5) and Turner Cook (6-0, 6-1) were all victorious in singles play.
The Gryphons (10-2, 9-0) will now travel to Bishop McGuiness on Tuesday to face the Villains in a second-round matchup.
Women’s T/F takes second overall, men finish third
BESSEMER CITY — The TJCA track and field team competed for the 1A/2A Southern Piedmont Conference Championship on Wednesday with the women’s team taking second and the men’s team placing third.
