Jeanette Sims joined the TJCA Board of Directors in 2021. She has lived in Paraguay, Venezuela, Alabama, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and North Carolina. She met her husband, who was raised in Rutherfordton, while both were working at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. Jeanette and her husband have lived in Rutherfordton for five years and have two children who currently attend Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.

 

Jeanette received her undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Spanish from Western Carolina University. She received her JD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has worked as an attorney for the past nine years in both private practice and for a non-profit, providing legal advice and representation in a broad range of matters including traffic, criminal, family, wills, business, and immigration. She has taught Criminal Justice courses in the high school setting for Isothermal Community College and has also conducted quasi-judicial administrative hearings for the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

 

As a bilingual attorney, Jeanette has always been actively engaged in community outreach and advocacy to ensure that every person has access to effective legal assistance. Jeanette enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching her sons play sports, volunteering, and taking Zumba classes.
